About Yaru & Natural Mineral Water

What is natural mineral water?

Natural mineral water comes from a protected underground source and contains naturally occurring minerals acquired as it passes through rock formations. It is bottled at or near the source to preserve its natural composition, with only limited treatments permitted under food regulations.

Yaru Water is sourced from a deep confined aquifer beneath the ancient volcanic landscape of the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, where it is naturally mineralised before being bottled directly at the source.

What is the difference between mineral water and purified water?

Natural mineral water contains naturally occurring minerals acquired from its underground source. Purified water is treated to remove impurities and minerals and may have minerals added back later depending on the product. Yaru Water is naturally mineralised and bottled directly at the source.

Can you drink mineral water every day?

Yes. Natural mineral water can be enjoyed every day as part of a healthy lifestyle. It naturally contains minerals including calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and silica, acquired as it passes through underground rock formations.

Why does mineral water taste different?

Every natural mineral water has its own unique taste because of its naturally occurring minerals and the geology it passes through. Yaru Water is naturally mineralised through ancient volcanic rock, giving it a crisp, refreshing taste.

Our Source

How does Yaru protect its water from source to bottle?

Yaru Water is sourced from a deep protected confined aquifer beneath layers of ancient volcanic rock, where it is naturally shielded from many surface influences. The water is carefully monitored, treated using a gentle, chemical-free UV process and bottled directly at the source to ensure quality while preserving its naturally occurring minerals. Whether you choose our food-grade recycled PET (rPET) bottles or premium Australian made glass range, every bottle delivers the same naturally mineralised Australian water.

What minerals are found in Yaru Water?

Yaru Water naturally contains calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, silica, sodium and potassium, contributing to its unique mineral profile and crisp, refreshing taste. Unlike purified water, these minerals are naturally present—not added after bottling.

Why are the naturally occurring minerals in Yaru Water important?

The naturally occurring minerals in Yaru Water are acquired as the water slowly passes through ancient volcanic rock over many years. Every natural mineral water has its own unique mineral profile, influenced by the geology of its source. These minerals contribute to the water’s distinctive composition and refreshing taste.

What is the mineral content (TDS) of Yaru Water?

We believe in transparency and publish our mineral analysis so you can explore the naturally occurring minerals found in Yaru. Yaru Water has a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of 349 mg/L, reflecting its naturally occurring mineral content.

Sustainability & Packaging

Why does Yaru use recycled PET (rPET) bottles?

Yaru was created to make naturally mineralised water more accessible for everyday hydration while reducing its environmental impact. That’s why we use bottles made from recycled PET (rPET), helping to give existing plastic a second life while reducing the need for virgin plastic. Our bottles are fully recyclable, supporting a more circular approach to packaging while making sustainable hydration easier on the go.

What is recycled PET (rPET)?

Recycled PET (rPET) is plastic that has been collected, cleaned and processed into new food-grade bottles instead of being discarded. By giving existing plastic a second life, rPET helps reduce the need for virgin plastic, conserve resources and support a more circular approach to packaging.

Is recycled PET safe for drinking water?

Yes. Recycled PET (rPET) used for beverage bottles is processed, cleaned and manufactured to meet strict food safety standards for drinking water. Yaru’s bottles are made from food-grade recycled PET. For those who prefer glass, Yaru also offers a premium Australian-made glass range.

Can recycled PET bottles be recycled again?

Yes. Food-grade recycled PET (rPET) bottles are designed to be recycled again and transformed into new bottles and other products. We encourage customers to recycle every Yaru bottle after use.

Does Yaru offer glass bottles?

Yes. Yaru’s premium glass range offers the same naturally mineralised Australian water in an elegant package. Our water is sourced in Australia, bottled in Australia and packaged in Australian-made glass, providing an infinitely recyclable option.

Social Enterprise

What is the Yaru Foundation?

The Yaru Foundation is our social impact initiative, supporting projects that create positive environmental and community outcomes.

How does buying Yaru make a difference?

For every 100 litres of Yaru Water sold, $1 is donated to the Yaru Foundation, supporting meaningful environmental and community initiatives. Thanks to every bottle purchased, more than $500,000 has been raised to date.

Why is Yaru called 'Yaru'? / What does Yaru mean?

Yaru means 'rock' in the local Bundjalung language, reflecting the ancient geology that naturally mineralises our water.
