Water Source

Mount Warning-Wollumbin rises out of the rainforest in the heart of Bundjalung country in New South Wales
Our Source
'Gumerah' – Living Water

Yaru Water is sourced and bottled from water that flows deep below the foothills of an ancient volcano. Mount Warning-Wollumbin rises out of the rainforest in the heart of Bundjalung country in Northern New South Wales. For thousands of years subtropical rains have blown in from vast expanses of untouched Pacific Ocean. They have showered the mountain and the surrounding volcanic rim, filtering deep down into the land below. This has created a precious underground water source, filtered by layers of ancient volcanic rock (Yaru means Rock in Bundjalung). The water that flows through this rock is high in minerals and naturally alkaline* (*still water).

Of Cultural Significance
'Jagun' - A Sacred Land

Throughout the ages, Mount Warning-Wollumbin has been culturally, spiritually and historically significant. From early history, this mountain has been very important to the Bundjalung people, and to many other Aboriginal tribes. Due to its proximity to Cape Byron, Australia’s most easterly point, Mount Warning-Wollumbin is the first place in Australia to see the sun each morning. Culturally, this is of great significance, as the sun is a source of energy and life. “This life flow is reflected in the water, in the mountains, and in the land. In everything here we see the power and strength of spirit. The water that flows from this mountain also represents the life force and power for our people. Our ancestors drank this living water, and today we are sharing this precious source, for life, health, and abundance to all who thirst.” ~ Kyle Slabb, Traditional Owner, Bundjalung Nation, and Original Co-Founder.

The Environment

We’re certified carbon neutral and have been since the day we began. We cancel all emissions created during the lifecycle of a bottle of Yaru Water. We do this by purchasing carbon offsets that finance green energy projects like wind farms or solar parks, and further investment into clean technologies. We also implement rainforest regeneration programs every single year. You can read more about this here. Did you know that we blow our bottles on-site from recycled PET? This avoids unnecessary transportation. Our rPET bottles are 100% recycled and fully recyclable. We also provide a glass range alternative. View our full range of products here.
